Another week gone by. Funny, they all seem the same. Wait…they have been the same. Each day blends into the next. Around and around and around. The days are only different by thoughts and ideas. It is hard to know what day it is.
Why am I so lazy? So inclined to just sit and knit or crochet. It is getting something done but not with the energy I usually enjoy. Today I did some simple gardening. It was hot out and it didn’t take me long to be tired and overheated. A routine of exercises must be added to my days or I will become a painted picture attached to a chair with knitting in her hands. This is not me. Somehow the desire for more has to be re-established. Days where my sights are higher than that chair.
People around us are getting out more but they are not as at risk as we are. It is so strange to be in the “old and fragile” group, I have never thought of my self that way. My self image has been altered and I need to move back to the real me.
Today we ventured out to the grocery store. We are limiting the times we go anywhere but it was necessary. While in the store my husband commented to one of the employees that he just didn’t understand the hoarding of toilet paper.
The reply he got was “It is because the virus scares the s###t out of everyone.” That is the first logical response I have heard and the funniest.
There are some funny things to be found in our day to day lives now. One yard in our neighborhood usually looks terrible but it now looks great. Guess the free time made a difference.
Many people are still working here but I don’t know how long that will last. We are way behind the places that got the virus early on and we will be behind getting rid of it. That may mean a longer time isolating since we began with the rest of the country.
I have managed to be productive knitting and crocheting— 2 blankets for the Humane Society, three hats for one granddaughter (she wears them so she doesn’t have to fix her hair for university classes), one afghan for another granddaughter several necklaces to sell to make money for the Humane Society. (You can see where my love is)
This is the crazy hat. She will love it!
Let’s hope that people calm down soon and the crazy hoarding stops. There really is no need for it.
Today our Tuesday knit/crochet/whatever group decided to knit blankets for the Humane Society. We all love animals and they need all the help they can get. We feel that we get so much joy from knitting together that we can share that joy elsewhere.
I spoke to the humane society and they are thrilled that we will do that. It is one way to pay it forward. I can’t believe the way some people treat animals.
Of course I also can’t believe the way children/adults are treated also. I guess my comprehension of how someone must think to abuse anything/anyone is something out of my understanding. I don’t even like to step on a bug and when I can I will put them outside. Where we are we get small lizards in the house and I have been known to chase all over to catch them and get them outdoors where they can thrive. It hurts my heart (actually) to think of the abuse some people/animals suffer.
Tuesday is a day that I always look forward to. On Tuesdays I meet with friends for knitting and conversation. We are a group who before starting this group did not know each other. We are all different. We are from different countries, different social groups. This makes the group inspiring and conversation is stimulating.
To add to it we are also being creative. One of the members is an amazing artist and does many pencil drawings for children to color. Each of us is creating something usually in yarn but not always. Most of the things we create are for others. We also offer free help teaching to knitting for anyone who want to learn. This group is such a joy.
I have been knitting since I was a child. It reminds me of the my wonderful mother and the many things she taught me. The motion of my hands and the creating of something both beautiful (I hope) and useful have a calming effect. Knitting can allow the brain to rest (if not too complicated) and the mind to let go of stresses. Seeing the finished product brings joy. Now that I have children, grandchildren and great grandchildren it is fun to do things for them and for friends.
